MUSICAL DIRECTOR HUNUUKKD.
Members of the Auckland Municipal Band together with their wives and friends held a social evening last night. The Auckland Municipal Band ceased to exist in its old form this week, and one of the main features of the programme last night was the presentation of a gold wristlet watch and a letter of appreciation from the members of the band to the musical director, Mr. T. J. O'Connor. The presentation was made on behalf- of the bandsmen by the deputy-conductor, Mr. H. McLennan, who referred to the excellent services Mr. O Connor had rendered to the band an<f to the high esteem in which he was held by the members.
Modern and old-time music together with a number of excellent musical items assisted in making the programme for the evening most enfovable. Instrumental numbers by the St. James Salon Quartet, comprising Miss Kathleen (piano), Miss Helen Gray and Miss Moia Cooper-Smith (violins), and Miss Jean Clarkson ('cello), were greatly enjoyed bv the large rhimber of puests. I'ia no-accordion solos by Mr. O. Cheeseman, and songs by Mr. Reginald Richards and Mr. Eric Child were further pleasing features of the programme. Mr. Alan McElwain acted as dance and programme director and also contributed humorous recitations. Among those present were:—Mrs T •T. O'Connor, Mrs. H. McLennan, Mrs] S. Jackson, Mrs. R.
