GARDEN PLACf SCHEME
PROPOSED £25,000 LOAN.
HAMILTON, Wednesday.
At a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening a further in the scheme for removing Garden Place }h an * rea of 5 i acres in the centre of Hamilton, for which a loan of £77,500 was carried some months ago, was reached when it was decided to call tenders for the removal of the houses on the hill and for the removal of the apoil according, to specifications prepared by the engineer, Mr. R. Worlev There are 350,000 yards of spoil to be removed.
A recommendation of a committee that arrangements be made to raise a loan to provide for the erection of tow n hall at Garden Place was adopted by the council. The scheme provides for the site to be on the central portion of the Alexandra StreetAnglesea Streat frontages, the cost excluding the value of the laud, to be about £2.5,000. The building is to have a level floor, with full-size stage, dressing rooms, and (several meetin<r and supper rooms. °
