WORKMAN KILLED.
TRENCH CAVED IN. RESCUE OP COMRADE. (By Telegraph.—Frh Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. Two men -were buried beneath tons of sand when a trench in which they were working collapsed at Patea this afternoon. One of them was extricated unharmed, but the other was dead when he was dug out two hours later. The victim was:-— Mr. George Allen, married, of Palmer - •ton North. The rescued man, Mr. George Edgecombe, of Patea, was working with Mr. Allen when a trench 14ft deep caved in. Rescuers could work only two at a time. Mr. Edgecombe, who was in a itanding position, was almost clear when t, further slip buried him to the chin. [t was not until an hour later that 1m was released. Mr. Allen was m a crouching position when the fall occurred, and waa dead when released.
