NEW STOCK ROUTE.
MANUKAU COUNTY OBJECTS.
NO CHANGE OF ATTITUDE
The cottucil h»s never withdrawn its objection! to the proposed new stock route between the southern suburbs and the Weetfleld ealeyards," declared Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County Council, at a meeting yesterday. The matter aroee after attention had been drawn to the reported statements of Mr. R. P. Worley, consulting engineer to the Manurewa Borough Council, when reporting' to his council on the conference at the end of August of local body engineers to discuss new stock routes, suggested as a means of relieving traffic on the Great South Road. Mr. Worley, etated the report, said a proposal for a route on the western side of the Great South Road had been advanced, and the Manukau County Council had withdrawn its objections. During discussion that followed members referred to the proposals as "absolutely ridiculous," and said the construction of such a route was not called for.
It wae finally agreed that the council reiterate its strong objection to the pfoposed western stock route. It was also decided to point out that county officials had never intimated withdrawal of the council's previous objections and that the council had never received anyofficial report of the conferences convened by the Manurewa Borough Council.
