HOUSE SHORTAGE.
HOMES DEMOLISHED. HITLER REBUILDING BERLIN. • BERLIN. Berlin is on the go, with almost everyone house-building. Wholesale orders to vacate premise* have rained down on rich and poor, German and foreigner alike, to make space for the wrecker*, who will prepare the ground for the colossal new structures with which Fuehrer Adolf Hitler plana to beautify his capital. Berlin residents at first liked the idea of seeing their, city revamped into a breath-taking capital, with a great central airport, a triumphal road, a great university city, and the most impreseive Government buildings in the world. But eince the rush for new homes started, the residents moan. "Half of Berlin is being turned into Government buildings and the other half is being torn down," they say. Vainly have foreign diplomats appealed to the Government to save their beautiful, expensive embassies from the wreckers.
Vainly have big business concerns pointed out that their enterprises would be ruined if they had to move—not to speak of the heartrending appeals of the little men to save the homee dear to their hearte.
The Fuehrer is determined to rebuild his capital. Even if bankers and statist.iciane claim Germany cannot afford the luxury of super-colossal show places, his plans will be carried out, all those close to him say. The Fuehrer hae pointed to history and to the moaning* of Berliners of the past when their kings rebuilt the city. The burghers, when aseenibled for their quiet, friendly confabs around the "siphon of beer," which is the modern version of a email keg, meekly refer to the historical mill above Frederick the Great's castle of Sans-Souci in Potsdam, where, ae the old tale has it, the miller refused to move and dared the proud king "because we have judges in Berlin." This time no antiquated mills will be left to mar the grandeur of the picture Fuehrer Hitler is planning.
