HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.

ANNUAL MEETING.

THE YEAR'S WORK.

The eleventh annual meeting of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary was held in the Pen women's Club this afternoon and presided over by Mrs. Alfred Kidd. The report was presented by the president, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, and the secretary, Mise L. Cureon, and disclosed a year of activity. It stated that calls on the depot showed an increase on last } ear's figures. During the year 1779 jMitiente had been assisted with clothing. Food orders had been issued to (57S patients, and 143 patients had been aligned with faree to enable them to attend hospital for treatment. A total of 8939 garments had been given to needy patients. Miscellaneous donations, including books, magazines and fruit totalled 3145, and 112 parcels of secondhand clothing had been left at the depot. The children in the isolation ward had been given clothing, and many patients had been supplied with new footwear. District Nurses. Sister Muller, who is in charge of the district cases, reported to the depot such cases as required special diet or supplementary food after their discharge from hospital. This co-operation of the district nurses ie appreciated, as the auxiliary is able to supply these necessities immediately, thus assisting the patients to a

speedy recovery. Included in these necessities are extract of malk and cod liver oil, malted milk, also extract and supplier of milk and egjrs. They have aiso distributed over 800 garments. The Xurses' Home committee reported a very active year's work, having knitted 7Pt> garments from wool supplied by the auxiliary. The knitting of these garments reflected great credit upon the mireefl, especially the baby clothes, which gladdened the hearts of many a mother i.n needy circumstances. The nurses aleo supplied 496 second-hand garments for distribution. Thanks were expressed to Sister P. Rowe, convener, and staff nurse Clark, secretary, and to all members of both nursing and domeetic staffs.

The tuberculoma after care committee, under the convenershlp of Mre. SmithGray, wae only organised three months ago, but during that time has done very valuable work among the tubercular patients in the hospital and shelters; also those under the care of the T.B. nurse, Sister Fair. During that time they have visited many homes and have been able to supply blanket*, clothes, wood and coal, and have given orders for extra nournishment. The aim of this committee is not only to provide material help and comfort for these patients, but to assure them of our interest in their families. Owing to the long duration of the malady, many problems such as domestic and housing diffieultir* are continually presenting themselves.

Another constant source of revenue to funds are the bridge parties which are held monthly, and organised by the convener of this committee, Mrs. H. Bolitho. Thanks are due to the many players who so constantly support this worthy cause.
