FIRST SHOT FIRED.
WAIKATO CAMPAIGN.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, this day. The first shot in the Waikato electorate campaign was fired last night when Mr. C. R. Petrie, candidate for Otahuhu, addressed a meeting of 250 on behalf of the Waikato Labour candidate,, Mr. J. W. Neate. Both were accorded good receptions. They characterised the National party's manifesto as "empty." A motion of thanks to Mr. Petrie and confidence in the Government and Mr. Neate as Waikato candidate was carried with two dissentient*.
