BRIEF TOUR OPENED.
PUBLIC WORKS MINISTER.
VISIT TO TARANAKI.

HAWERA, Tuesday
At Hawera last night, the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, commenced a brief political tour to embrace four centres in the Taranaki province with an address on the activities of the two departments in his charge—Public Works and Transport. His address was illustrated with a film depicting old methods and new.
There, was an audience of 1000 and hundreds were turned away. A motion expressing confidence in Mr. Semple a* Minister in Charge of Public Works, in the Right Hon. M. J. Savage as Prime Minister in the Government, and in the Labour candidate for Patea, Mr. C. J. Dtiggan, was carried almost unanimously.
Deputations on minor matters were received by the Minister yesterday afternoon, and this morning he proceeded to Opunake.
A civic reception is to be tendered to Mr. Scmple by Central Taranaki local bodies to-morrow afternoon at Stratford, where he will apeak in the evening. The Minister will speak at New Plymouth on Thursday and he will return to Wellington by air on Friday.
