LABOURER'S ACTIONS.

CONVICTED FOR ASSAULT. LIVELY NIGHT IN FLAT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Robert Joseph Reardon, aged 23, a labourer, appeared in the Police Court to-day and pleaded not guilty to assaulting John Bruce Murphy and Constable A. E. Ansell in the execution of his duty. Murphy, who lives in the flat underneath Reardon, described Reardon as running up etairs on the night of September 17, and next seeing him on the verandah breaking witness' windows. Witness and his da lighter were showered with glass. Reardon called to them to come out or he would .shoot the lot of them. He switched off the lights and came into the house. Witness and his

brother then ehaeed him, and finally caught him. a struggle taking place among a litter of glass. Reardon fell five or six feet down a bank and had to be dragged back. He seemed to be in a mad state caused by drink, although he did not seem to be drunk when first seen. The charge with reference to the constable, arose from Reardon kicking the constable when an arrest was being made, evidence of which was given. The defence was to the effect that the defendant wae the party who was beaten up. Reardon was convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment on the first charge, and convicted and discharged on the second charge.
