MANUREWA COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Manurew'a Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. \V. J. Ferguson, presiding. Outstanding Kates. —The town clerk, Mr. H. Kay, reported that £930 had been collected or the outstanding rates. Foreman's Report.—Fifty-two men are engaged on Xo. 13 special scheme. The laying of 9in concrete pipes in Russell Road drain Iβ now in progiess. Levelling up the last section of. the 440 yds track in Jellieoe Park is now- under way. Major work on the tennis courts has not been proceeded with owing to the unsettled weather. Great South Road footpath formation (southern end) will be completed witlrin the next few days. Floodlighting JelHcoe Park.—The question or tiie floodlighting of Jellieoe Park is to be undertaken by the council, the cost of the scheme decided upon being approximately £67. Tenders are to be called immediately for the electrical work. Bus Shelter.—The Auckland Provincial Bu* IVinpany wrote asking if the council w.ie prepared to assist in the erection o: the r-i'.-'.risted bus shelter at Brown"? Road coiner if this work was undertaken by their company. Mr. Sainty. foreman, was requested to obtain the necessary information re cost and type of shelter to be Rural Delivery.—The Post and Telegraph Department advised that approval had been obtained for the establishment of a rural delivery to serve the urban areas adjacent to the borough. The new service will be undertaken by Mr. G. T. Rogers, who will make a daily trip over certain areas outside the borough boundaries. Residents requiring this service must sizn the necessary application form, and pay <i fee of £1. State Housing.—Correspondence was received from the Under-Secretaiy for Housine. Mr. J. A. Lee. stating it was very difficult at the present moment to tix a derinite date regarding his movements in the vicinity of Manurewa. but -would be pleased to "meet council representatives when visiting Auckland next month. A deputation was appointed to wait on Mr. Lee in Auckland in the event of his not being able to visit the district. Cemetery Reserve. —The council 9 solicitor advised that power had now been granted the council to ec\\ the cemetery resrrve or part thereof, proceeds of same to be applied to payment of sale costs and to the purchase of other land for borough purpose*, or for improvement of other land vested in the- corporation or towards the repayment of any loan raised by the council for the purpose of acquiring the said land.
