FAT SHEEP IN DEMAND. FIRM PRICES AT MATAWHERO. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, Saturday. A feature of the fortnightly stock sale at Matawhero to-day was the strong demand for fat sheep. Store sheep on the other hand met with little inquiry. The entry of 155 fat sheep was generally of good quality and met with keen demand. Values ranged from 17/9 to 22/3, several lots making above £1. Wethers sold from 24/3 to 24/6, ewes at 18/6, and Southdown two-tooths, from 17/9 to 22/. For store sheep the market was very slack, buyers appearing to be few. Quality hoggets were offered, making 19/9 to 21/6. Ewe hoggets went to 20/, and attractive wethers to 22/1. Ewes with lambs met with little competition, fairly good sorts making 25/6. Well-grown, good-condi-tioned hoggets made 13/10; Southdown hoggets, good-conditioned, 11/4; good size and condition, 13/10; two and four-tooth, fat and forward, 21/3; two-tooths, fairly good size, in good order, 19/8; wether hoggets, a good pen, 17/; size and condition, 19/9 to 21/6; quality lot, 19/8; woolly, average size, in fairly good order, 16/7; fair size and condition, short wool, 6/6; empty ew;es in fairly good order, 7/2.
