The Auckland heavy-weight, McHugh, possessing a devastating punch, gave an outstanding display in his class, only C. Marsh, of Greymouth, rivalling him in speed and ringcraft. Marsh ran both the 1837 light-heavy-weight champion and the 19.'i8 champion to close decisions. In the lijiht-heavy-'weig'iit division W. Lister took the title from his brother, T. Lister. The winner was a ponderous lighter, with plenty of power, but little science, whose success was attributable in some dejjree to the hard fight his brother had with Marsh.
