IRISHMEN ALL THE POINTS. McKIBBEN FIVE GOALS. CAPTAIN SCORES TWO TRIES. ' i CAPETOWN, September 18. The British Rugby team defeated Western Province Universities by 19 points to 16 on Saturday. The score at half-time was 6—3 in favour of Britain. A crowd of 12,000 witnessed the match, which wae played in stifling heat, which caused the visitors to be lethargic. The Universities' team won the earlier scrums. McKibben opened the scoring when he kicked a penalty goal for Britain from 40 yards out. The Springbok Wahl, after missing three penalty kicks, equalised the score with a goal from half way. Then McKibben kicked another penalty goal. The British team attacked strongly after I the interval and Walker scored a try which was converted by McKibben. Walkrr scored another try and again McKibben converted. Then Wahl kicked a penalty goal, and later converted tries by de Wets and Wells. The home team's unexpected improvement was too late, however, and in spite of levelling the score at 16-all, McKibben won the game for Britain by kicking his third penalty goal. H. R. McKibben is a Queen's University (Belfast) three-quarter. S. Walker, the British captain, is also an Irishman, and plays for Instonians, Dublin. When the 1928 All Blacks met the combined Stellenbosch and Capetown Universities the New Zealandors won by 14 points to 9. J. T. Burrow*!, a front row forward (who was one of the 1937 national selectors when the Springboks we're here) was referee: and the match, played under amended rules, created a favourable impression as an exhibition of them. Saturday's was the last match of the British tour. Altogether 23 games were played, 17 being won and six lost. Results: Points. Opponents. Result. For. Ag'nst.
