SHORE OUTED.

ONEHUNGA WIN. FALCON CUP COMPETITION. MANY SOCCER SURPRISES. The elimination from the Falcon Cup competition of North Shore by Onehunga on Saturday was the Soccer surprise of the day. Shore, who recently won the senior championship competition, were favoured against Onehunga, who had not recorded a win during the season.. With better combination, however, Onehunga succeeded in downing the champions by an odd goal. Thistle proved too good for Eastern Suburbs at Blandford Park, Abels defeating Comrades in the curtain-raiser. Navy succeeded against Y.M.C.A. by an odd goal at Devonport. Taken all round it was a day of days for the lower teams. Following were the results: — Thistle 4, beat Eastern Suburbs 2. Onehunga 2, beat North Shore 1. Navy 2, beat Y.M.C.A. 1. Abels 4, beat Comrades 1. ABELS SURPRISE COMRADES. With the season drawing near Its close, the two major knock outs staged at Blandford l'ark in the Falcon Cup competition drew a good crowd under ideal conditions, and the first bout between Abels and Comrades was a lively game, with typical cup-tie methods more than studied Soccer, and there were some solid exchanges and willing clashes in which Abels proved too hefty for the lighter Comrades, and put them out of the contest by the substantial Margin of four goals to one. Abels led by two-nil at the changeover as the result of neat combined work between Robinson and Hamilton, with n well-judged free kick by Meek from about 30 yards out. The Newmarket men doubled their score with a line drive by E. Ekman and smart anticipation by Hamilton, and then Comrades' solitary goal came from A. Francis on the third attempt after reboundrng from the goalie and the upright. For the winners James was very safe in goal, while Ross and Waters were a vigorous pair of welter-weights who fended off the Comrades raids in a solid fashion. Meek shone in the half line, and Fitzgerald led and fed the Abels van with sound strategy, and Robinson was lively on the wing until lamed early in the second spell. Yearbury was not so sure as usual in the Comrades citadel, but McKenna defended stronglv with some rugged tackling, while Hay ward in front of him was more effective than orthodox in defence. Hooten was Bound at centre half, but the Comrades liring line showed a falling off in penetrative power. A DULL KNOCK-OUT. Thistle and Suburbs in the second bout were expected to provide a lively elimination game, hut players showed signs of stalenews and end-of-the-season lethargy Neither side was at full strength, And team work was obviouslv affected and. with players more inclined to stand off than go to either the ball or the man. the first half was a dull affair. In the second spell Thistle broke the spell with a bright goal by Angus, and then plnvers warmed up to it a bit. with goals coming to the Scots from Dean and G. Caislev (2) while Ciimmings netted cleverly for Suburbs and Welch landed a penalty kick. Thistle running out victors by four goals to two. For the winners Orr at fullback gave an impressive display, with Constable and Watson the best of the halves, and G Caisiey at insi.le left proved a valuable recruit from the juniors with two good goals. tor Suburbs the defence was not impressive, but Cummingg and Hftchen on the opposite wings were triers all the time in attack, and lacked support from the Inside men.
