PAPATOETOE FUNCTION.
A LARGE ATTENDANCE.
The Papatoetoe returned soldiers of the Otahuhu und District Club held their successful annual ball in the Papatoetoe Town Hall recently, when over 400 were present. The duties of master of ceremonies were carried out in military fashion by Mr. ,-ack Kitto, assisted by Mr. Harold Peacocke. The hall was brillinntly arrayed in numerous flags and greenery.
The ladies' committee comprised Mesdames R. V. Closey, L. Havill, L. Ewen P. Closey, Codlin, J. Kitto, H. R. Fielden G. Hodge, L. B. Ward and R. Calder.
Colonel R. V. Closey welcomed the guests on behalf of the club, and Mr. Los Kendall, chairman of the Papatoetoe Town Board, suitably responded. Novelty dances were won by Mr. C. Holmes and Miss E. Bishop, Mr. W Roger and Mrs. R. Picton! Mr. Jack Havill supervised the cards in the Parish Hall, results being as follow:—Bridge. Messrs. Benjamin and Waite (highest score); hidden numbers, Mrs. Lovell and Mr. Roseburne. Five hundred, Mrs. Jeavons and Mrs. Lipsham (highest score), Mr. Lipsham and Mr. R. Wood (highest gentleman's score); Mrs. Smith. Mr. Jeavons. Mrs. Lusby and Mr. Le<-ge (lucky numbers).
