GERMANY.
People are apt to forget that a change of Government may transform a friendly Power into an enemy. Over 60 years ago when Lord Salisbury was Prime Minister of Great Britain he passed Heligoland over to Germany, -who promptly fortified it. The I Kaiser had a strong dislike to Britain's boasting, such as "Rule Britannia," The Hermans can boast, too. Before the Great War started they expected to smash France [in a fortnight, then tnrn round and give Russia a knockout blow. Britain -would have trouble in Ireland, so the prospect of becoming master of Europe looked rosy enough, but it turned out otherwise, and after killing and wounding millions of the flower of Europe's manhood, she had to acknowledge defeat and agree to pay reparations. This she did for a time; then Britain and France kindly advanced 50 millions to set her on her feet again. Now, led by Hitler, she has become a menace to Europe again. Such is the result of the childlike faith of Britain and France. WISE AFTER EXPERIENCE.
