RUSE OX RACECOURSES
• e ruse of racecourse "sharps" in New South Wales is the passing of Now Zealand 10/ notes for Australian notes. They are similar in colour, and by crumpling them the schemers have found it possible to wprk them off on to bookmakers. Their procedure is to wait until * rush comes for a horse—sav at 3to 1 The 10/ note is pushed into the hand of a bookmaker, with a call of: "Fifteen to five." If it works, the holder of the ticket gets £o change, and a ticket for Several unsuccessful attempts were made at Menangle a few davs azo, but the scheme cuts both ways. At a recent meeting at Maitland a bookmaker paid a Sydney trainer with one of the 10/ notes.
