NO JEALOUSY.
RELATIONS WITH AUSTRALIA.
THE LABOUR PROGRAMME
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Friday. A former Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. •T, W. Beanland, returned to-day from a nine weeks' visit to Australia with Mrs. Beanland. He said he found the [present programme of the New Zealand Laftotir Government -whs viewed with a good deal of scepticism in the Commonwealth, whore the opinion wan often expressed that Labour in New Zealand was trying 1 to go too far and too fast. Doubts were aW> expressed as to the ability of the Government to finance the social security scheme. Australians considered theit own scheme very much more feasible. Mr. Beanland was struck by the change in the Australian attitude toward New Zealand during the past few years. Previously there had been jealousy and some suspicion between the two countries, but to-day Australian feeling was most cordial and any sign of jealousy appeared to have disappeared. He was most hospitably received by the Mayors of the various towns he visited, and had been entertained by the Lord Mayor of Melbourne.
