Front Line Leaders Meeting Strong Resistance.
CHINESE CLAIM 810 VICTORY. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, September 2. The Japanese General Staff is reported to have ordered the occupation of Hankow by the end of September, but front line commanders state this is impossible until midOctober. The Japanese are meeting stubborn resistance. Aeroplanes again dropped leaflets urging foreigners to take refuge in safety zones as soon as possible. The authorities promise to respect the safety of foreign commercial 'planes provided they specify their course. The Japanese claim to have trapped 100,000 Chinese in the Lushan Mountains, says a Tokyo cable. The Chinese claim to have won a great victory on the south bank of the Yangtse west of Juichaug. saying that they have driven back the Japanese four miles and inflicted 4000 casualties, says a message from Hankow.
