GISBORNE, FridayEastern- defeated Canterbury in the semi-final of the New Zealand ladies' hockey tournament by 3 goals to nil in a spectacular game, played at a torrid pace throughout. Eastern scored 15 minutes flftcr the st&rt, but did not bsve a dccidcd advantage until 10 minutes before the finish, when two quick goals came after a •sustained attack. Miss Jones scored twice and Miss Sherriff once. A heavy shower swept the field in the second spell, making the ground greasy. The final to-morrow is between Eastern and Ashburton.

AUCKLAND BEATS ASHBURTON. (From Our Correspondent.) GISBORNE, Friday. Auckland confirmed the opinion that it is at least the third strongest team in the tournament by beating the A section winners, Ashburton. by 6 goals to 1. Ashburton did not field its best team, saving several players for to-morrow'e final. Auckland had a definite superiority, especially in the forwards, who monopolised the second spell. Misses Watson and Gawler were the best of the forwards, sharing the goals equally. Misses Askew and Gubb were sterling on defence, while Miss Squires was prominent in the second spell. This game had no bearing on the championship. PIAKO ASSOCIATION. INDIAN MATCH FINANCES. The Piako Hockey Association made a profit of £20 on the visit of the Manavadar Indian hookey team, which defeated Piako by 12 goals to O at Te Aroha last week When the financial result of the match wns reviewed at a meeting of the Piako Association at Morrinsvllle Mr. H. D. Hastie. president, announced that gate and stand receipts totalled £93 and there had been a profit on the dance held in the evening. Expenses had been heavy, including £50 to the New Zealand Hockey Association and 10 per cent of the gate receipts to the Domain Board. The Indians had stated that the Te Aroha ground was one of the best they had played on in New Zealand the only better one being that at Kotorua.
