SHEPHERD BEATS MoGUIRE. I ' The Auckland open billiards champion- ! ship was continued last night at Messrs. Barton and McGill's hall, when J. J. Shepherd met R. McGuire. The game opened with McGuire scoring freely and running up breaks of 25, 24 and 68 he reached the 100 mark. Shepherd, with breaks of 20 and 58, made up some of the leeway, and the score read:—McGuire, 200; Shepherd, 146. Shepherd, with breaks of 21, 23 and 24, led by two points at 300. Continuing with a run of 41 and two breaks in the twenties, he reached 400, with McGuire at 361. McGuire had a hard uphill fight, and Shepherd ran to points with a break of 32. The final scores were: —Shepherd, 500; McGuire, 445. J. J. Molloy will play E. W. Warren at 7.45 to-night.
