MATCHING CARDS.
Dr. Bancroft IT. Brown, of the department of mathematics and astronomy at Dartmouth College, hae calculated the probabilities of securing any score from ,1 to 30 with a deck of cards made up of six euits of six cards each. Hifl results, reported in the current issue of "Science,** show that a perfect i>core would happen, on the l«ac%v; of chance alone, once out of 2,e70,177,73«,«37,14».247.308.800 calls of the complete packe. Crude calculations indicate" that one card in six should be called accurately by jjucsework. By Dr. Brown's more complex formula tho chance expectation :becomes about 5 per cent higher. .
