DR. GRAY HASSELL.
(Krom Our Correspondent ) WELLINGTON", this day. A former sujtcrintendent of the I'oiirua Mental Hospital, Dr. Cray Has-.-ell, has died at the age of 7S years. He was born at Oamaru, studied medicine in Scotland, and graduated M.8.. CM., at Aberdeen in 18S1. In 1 ss:{ lie gained his M.D. decree and returned to New Zealand. In 188,> Dr. Hassell was
appointed superintendent of Wellington Hospital, and three years later he transfernjfl to the Mental Hospitals Department and became superintendent of Mount View Asvlum.
When I'orirua Asyltim (now Porima Mental Hospital) was opened Dr. Hassell was appointed in charge, ;•"<! he remained at I'orirua until he reached the retiring age. Since then he had lived most of the time in Wellington. Dr. Hassell was twice married. He is survived by a widow.
