TRAMS HELD UP.
POWER FAILURE.
EFFECT OF HIGH TIDES. WELLINGTON EXPERIENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The extraordinary succession of high tide* in the Wellington Harbour has resulted in considerable interruption of the power supply in the mid-city area. Last night several tramears were unable to get back from their late trips to the barns owing to a power failure. This morning at about 10 o'clock the tide wag again exceptionally high, and water again invaded a tunnel carrying feeder lines to the main city "substation and waterfront. By the use of alternative circuits the trouble was minimised and the tram service kept normal, but there were curious effects in many city buildings, where one section of the building would be lit and supplied with power, while another part was in darkness and without power. It is hoped to restore all services during the day.
