(Received 1 p.m.)
LOXDOX, June 17
"The Times" states that copyright news from the American Alpine Club's Karakoram expedition of 1038, which is attempting to find a possible route to the summit of Mount Godwin-Austen, second highest point on the globe, shows that the party left Srinagar and crossed the Himalayan chain over the pass of Zoji-la. It reached the Kargil oasis and later the town of Skardo, and is expected to set up a settled base camp below Mount Godwin Austen in the middle of June.
The party consists of six Americans, all noted climbers, led by Charles Houston, a member of the expedition which climbed Mount Nandadevi, the highest summit yet reached.
