MEDIATION MOVE. Britain Watching Situation In Spain. PREPARED TO TAKE PA&T. British Official Wlreleaa. (Received 2 p.m.) RUGBY, June 14. Questioned in the House of Commons regarding mediation in Spain, Mr. Chamberlain said that no proposals of this nature had been received from either side. The British Government, however, would continue to watch the situation and be ready to prof>ose mediation to either, aione or in conjunction with other countries at any time when the prospects of successful action appeared to be favourable. NO RETALIATION. Would Be Tantamount to Direct Intervention. ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNS TABOO. (Received l.bO p.m.) LOS DOS', June 14. Mr. Neville Chamberlain, in th* House of Commons, said that the placing of anti-aircraft guns on warships near .Spanish ports in order to fire on approaching aircraft would be tantamount to direct intervention. The Government was not prepared to embark on retaliatory action. The ]K>ssibility of jwoviding safety zones was beiiifj discussed. Mr. Attlee announced that he would raise the issue later.
