| ROUGH SEAS ENCOUNTERED. | (B.v Telegraph.— I'rtss Association.) BLKNHKIM, Tuesday. While Welli 11 o'toii and the ea*t coast area near Kaikoura experienced the full force of a j>ale yesterday, the Hlcnhcim distliet entirely escaped. It was calm all day, with intervals of sunshine. Last niuht, however, a strong south-easterly I wind sprang up, and rain fell. The weather to-day was squally and < h:tuseable, with low temperatures, indicating the possibility of lieavy snow on the liiprli country. At Ward yesterday the wind at times reached gale force. The Tarnahine had a rough crossing from Wellington to Pieton and rca< .ed the latter port more than an hour late. The sea was particularly rough from the Wellington Heads until the ves*-:i was off th'» Karori beacon, where one heavy sea which was shipped carried away the easing protecting the telegraph wires leading from the bridge to the engine room.
