NEW MELBOURNE HOSPITAL
SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MELBOURNE, June 8. Modern equipment, representing the latest scientific achievements overseas, will bs incorporated in the new £800.000 Royal Me'.fcourne Hospital. Expected to tike three years to complete, it will be the largest single structure ever built in Victoria. Among the modern features will be: — An underground traffic tunnel, with railway type electric trucks and control lights, 850 ft long connecting the various units. Six separate teaching departments. Six air-conditioned operating theatres and A kitchen wltli an output exceeding that of any hotel in Victoria—3ooo meals a dav.
The new hospital, which will be built at Parkville, will-contain 500 beds. It will supplant the present institution, and the whole of the Swaiiston, Lonsdale, Russell, Little Lcnsdale Streets block will be vacated.
Tlie State Government will guarantee a loan of £500,000 for the building. From special galleries above ° the theatres students will look down upon the operations performed by the hospital's specialists.
