SET-BACK TO CROPS.
HAIL AT PUKEKOHE. (From Our Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Monday. Streams and creeks in tho Franklin district were running high to-day following heavy rain and hail storms over the week-end. A fall of l.GOin was recorded in Pukekohe for the three days ended at four o'clock this afternoon. A heavy hail shower early this afternoon coated the main street with a light mantle of white, and in corners wind-driven hail piled up to a depth of some inches.
The wintry weather has caused a setback to early cauliflowers in the district, the demand for which now greatly exceeds the supply. Prices for cabbages have also hardened as a result of the eold weather.
