SHORT OF OFFICERS.
Soviet Army Purge Makes Room For Cadets. INDUSTRIAL UNREST SENSED, j (Received 2 p.m.) I LONDON", June 12. ! I "The Times" Riga correspondent states that M. Voroshiloff, Commissar for War, has ordered enrolment of 10,000 cadets as lieutenants iifthe "Red Army" without waiting for completion of their course at army schools. The official reason is to enable them to get experience in the autumn manoeuvres, but the real explanation is believed to be that the Red Army lacks officers chiefly owing to the long-drawn-out, drastic purge having deprived the army of between one-third and one-halt* of officers above the rank of lieutenant.
Thousands have disappeared and noj reasons have been stated. Great numbers! were described as traitors and shot. | Unrest is also reported in Soviet in- j dustry, where irregular supplies prevent j directors and engineers from fulfilling: plans. In consequence they arc liable l to prosecution for sabotage. j I
