PENWOMEN'S DEBATE.
EXCELLENT SPEECHES. An interesting debate was held at the Penwomen's Club luncheon on Friday, the subject being "Democracy is Preferable to Dictatorship." The Penwomen's team, consisting of Mrs. Ponder, Mrs. Turner, and Miss Watson, took the affirmative side, and the New Women's ( lub tvam, Mrs. Darlow, Mrs. Wood and Mrs. ( raig, spoke for the negative. In summing up the adjudicator, Mr. Kenneth Melvin, awarded the decision to the Penwomen's Club. "Few teams would defeat, the winning team of to-dav." said Mr. Melvin. "Your standard is as high as any other debating society in Auckland." The president, Mrs. iselk Porter, presided. At the afternoon meeting Miss Wrig Icy spoke on the "Art of Living,"' ami Mrs. White spoke on "Miniatures."
