MINING SOCIETY'S MEDAL.
MR. C. A. BANKS HONOURED. Mr. W. A. Freeman, chairman of (Jircetora of Bulolo Gold Dredging. Ltd., New. Guinea, has received word that Mr. C. A. Banks, managing director of the company, was presented with a gold medal by the Mining and Metallurgical Society 'of America, at the society's thirtieth anniversary dinner in New York month. The medal, which is regarded as a high honour, and was last awarded in 1929, states the "Sydney Morning Herald," was given to Mr. Banks for distinguished service in the application of aerial transportation to the development of remote mining operations. Mr. Banks was born in New Zealand, and it is unusual for persons who are not Americans to receive the award, which contains ]ooz of gold. A younger brother of Mr. E. G. Banks formerly superintendent at the Waihi mine, Mr. C. A. Banks, was in his younger days attached to that mine, and will be known to many in New Zealand.
