MAKING GOOD HEADWAY. Although Wee Pat has only been in work for a short period after a spell extending over a couple of weasons, she is making good headway under A. KempVs guidance. When raced previously this metre was in the first flight as a hurdler, but she lias not yet been successful in a steeplechase event. She may be given a race over the big fences later in the season.
JUMPER TURNED OUT. Bonnie Rollox will he. out of action for some tinie. as his trainer, A. .1. Martin, has decided to tire him and turn him out and will rely on Silver Sight to fill his place as a steeplechaser. Recently the latter ■.»as given a school over the brush fences at Kiccarton and took ihem cleanly and at a sound pace. Any doubts as to his ability over the bigger fences have now been dispelled. In fact, he is seen to better advantage than over hurdles, as ho does not take any chances with the bigger obstacles.
RACE FOR APPRENTICES. Silver Slipper was ridden at Wingatui on Monday by R. E. Humphries, a brother of G. Humphries, who had a success on her in the first day. The lad whs inclined to look round several times in the straight at a stage when his mount required all possible attention to keep her up to her work, but experience will help to overcome this habit which, incidentally, is often adopted by some of the older horsemen. W. Ellis, a brother of A. E. and I/. J. Ellis, rode a vigorous finish on Clubman in the same race, and in another stride the Riecarton gelding would have secured the verdict.
