CONTEST NEXT WEEK.

For the first time since the inauguration of the contest in 1932, the Blcdisloe medal for university orators will be competed for in Auckland on Wednesday evening next. The medal is awarded every three years, and the contestants are required to deliver a prepared oration upon the life and work of some notable New Zealandt-r or some outstanding event in New Zealand history. This year there will be 10 taking part, two from each of the four university colleges, and two from Massey Agricultural College.

The entries from Otago have not yet been received, but the other representative speakers and their subjects are as follows:— :.•-.-

Canterbury.—Mr. M. Jermyn, "The Advent of the Labour Government"; Mr. J. Garrett, "The Life and Work of the Botanist, Dr. L. Cockayne."
