WELL CONDUCTED

AUCKLAND HOTELS. GOOD POLICE REPORT. "HEED PAID TO WARNINGS." The annual meeting of the Auckland Licensing Committee was held to-day. when the business concerned the granting of transfers, publicans' licenses, and the renewal of publicans' licenses. The police report furnished by SubInspector M. Flanagan stated that the number of persons found on licensed premises after hours was small, considering the number of hotels in Auckland. It was evident that licensees were making an effort to carry out the law. "All hotels have been well conducted," said the report. "Previous reports have referred to persons prosecuted for carrying on the calling of bookmakers in the bars of licensed premises. During last quarter only one offence of this nature has been dealt with, and it is evident that licensees have "taken notice of the warning issued by the Licensing Committee." When the list of applications was being dealt with the chairman, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., remarked that the committee considered that some of the old %boden hotels in the city were not now suitable, and it would seriously consider before next year whether licenses should be granted for such buildings. He hoped the owners would pay some attention to what the committee had in mind. It was not much good putting new fronts to the old buildings, because that did not fulfil modern requirements. No objections being offered, the following transfers were granted:—Metropolitan Hotel. Nelson D. Culpan to James Norwood Layue; New Criterion Hotel, John Alfred Tate to William .Tames Nankivell; Albert Hotel, Noel Templet on Tailby to Thomas Henry Brett: Prince Arthur Hotel. Harold Ernest Cucksev to William Ellerington: Grosvenor Hotel. William John Rabbidge to Richard Thomas Millar; Waverlev Hotel. George Henry Prince to Eric Elmslie Harvey; Hotel Cargen, Ewen Kennedy Clarke to George Henry Prince; Wynyard Arms Hotel, Cecelia McGregor to Alfred Ernest Sainty; Astor Hotel, William John Fisher to Andrew Wright Anderson: Star Hotel (Albert Street). Andrew Wright Anderson to Norman Wilde.
