OTAHUHU CATHOLICS.
ANNUAL BALL. SPARKLING SUCCESS. Last evening's third annual Catholic ball held in the Otahuliu Public Hall proved to be an outstanding success, the dancing floor being crowded. The success of the function was a fitting reward for the excellent organisation of the ladies' committee comprising Mesdames J. Ayres, W. Baxter, J. Haydon, sen., P. Higgins, P. J. McKernon, J. O'Toole and A. Wyatt and Miss Y. White, together with the secretary, Mr. T. M. O'Connell, and Messrs. W. Culling, J. Fitzgerald, W. Hotchin, N. McEvoy, J. O'Toole and J. Tester.
A new departure in a decorative scheme in which the enclosing of the stage with old gold curtains, and clusters of palm fronds, hanging baskets of asparagus, drapings of national flags all interspersed, with many hundreds of coloured lights, transformed the dance hall, and drew much favourable comment from the guests. The masters of ceremony were Messrs. F. W. Grey, A. J. Hayden, P. Higgins and W. Whitelaw, and Miss Donelan and Mr. Beeson were awarded special prizes for a Monte Carlo competition.
Among those present were: Mesdames H. T. Clements, J. J. Graham, J. E. Gillies, P. Dudley, Harold Turner, P. C. Higgins, N. McEvoy, H. Nicholson, B. Peguero, M. S. Mcgweeney, D. O'Connell, R.
