WHANGAREI DEFENCE CLUB.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Week-end shooting organised by the Whangarei Defence Rifle Club wus held under difficult circumstances owing to a bright light and a tish-tall wind. Top scorer was G. Neville, who registered a possible at 500 yards and 43 at 600 yards. He. also secured a win in the Fischer Shield series, at 500 yards. E. A. Foote was the victor in the Kelly Cup series with 42, 3—15 at 600 yards. Scores were :—G. Neville, 50 at 500 yards,, 43 at 600 yards, total 93; E. A. Foote, 44, 42, handicap 6, 92; J. Liclilield, 46, 44—90; J. Norris, 47, 42—89; W. Slade Clark, 43, 44—87; W. Norris, 44, 43 —87 ; B. L. Smith, 48, 37 —85 ; Crispin, 24, 26, 20—70; Holland, 11, 33, 20—64. So far this season the standard of shooting has been unusually high, six possibles having been scored, compared with an average for the " club of about one per season. Leading scores this season are: W. Norris, 144, 2; G. Neville, 141, 8; J. Lichfield, 140, 4; J. H. Ashton, 140; J. Norris, 140. Next week-end will see the final of the club championships.
