A FAIR INDICATION

The score in the Manukan-Xorth Shore match at the Showgrounds was a fair indication of the run of play. It was a keenly-played match, with open movements on both sides. On the run of play. North Shore played better tactical football, but. the backs were worried by the fast-breaking Manukau forwards, who played with considerable dash. It was their efforts that prevented the Shore men from getting more points, for thev secured the ball in the scrums and line outs and fed their bucks well. The Mumkau back line, however, did not play up to the standard set by the forwards. Bad handling and poor passing spoiled many movements. Pearce was outstanding in the Manukau pack. Outstanding backs were Oaro and rocks. Shore half-back and full-back respectively, and Spratt, three-quarter. Manukaus points came from a try *«v Pearce and a penalty and a conversion }iy Way. McKinlay and Slylield scored for Xorth Shore and Cocks converted one try.

BETTER MARIST LINE. Clear-cut superiority In the back-line allowed Mnrist to gain an eight-point win over University in the curtain-raiser at Eden Park. Despite the selfishness of Williams, who played in Curtayne's place in the Marist back-line, the backs produced several splendid passing movements. The weakness of the University inside hacks was the deciding factor, for 1.. Cooney. the Marist first five-eighths, continually slipped past his markers and set his outside men goinir. The University men persisted in running straight into the defence, instead of letting tb/* ball out to their three-quarters, who played sound games. Martin, the centre, was in particularly good form. I'atersou played soundly at full-hack. The best Marist men were Molloy, centre, and Ij. Cooney. FConner. Williams and Molloy scored for Mnrists. Hare converting one try and kick ing a penalty. Kirkland scored two tries for 'Varsity and Martin kicked a penalty. Kirkland showed great dash whenever he -got the ball. OTHER GAMES. SENIOR. SECOND DIVISION. Suburbs 11. beat Northcote 6.
