AFTERNOON PARTY.
REGAULT DE GENOUILLY. i FRENCH OFFICERS ENTERTAIN. As a farewell to their many Auckland friends Captain A. le Plante and the officers of the French sloop Eigault de Genouilly held an enjoyable At Home on board on Saturday afternoon. Bright autumn sunshine and cool autumn weather added much to the enjoyment of the party, which was held on the quarterdeck. On arrival the guests, who included representative citizens, members of the three services, the Consular Corps and the wardroom officers of H.M.S. Achilles, H.M.S. Leander and H.M.S. Philomel, were received by Captain A. le Plante. The guests were presented to him by Monsieur A. Pouquet, Consul for France. Cocktails and other refreshments were served from a buffet on one side of the deck, and later in the afternoon dancing took place on the decks, which were sheltered by awnings for the occasion.
