POSITION IN AUCKLAND.
SHORTAGE NEXT SPRING.
So shortage of meat, at lea>-t for the present, was likely in Auckland, stated the manager <>f the Auckland City Council abattoir. Mr. R. W. Rugg. this morning. As a matter of fact morr than enough fat stock. I».>il- beef and mutton, was coining forward; ami all that was killed to be used for human consumption was absolutely healthv.
It was probable, however, lie added, that there would be a shortage of lamb next spring because of the eczema outbreak. It was most unlikely that any ewe infected with the disease would carry a lamb, and that would naturally mean that there Would be fewer lambs. Doubtless an effort would be made to import healthy and iiniiflWe;! ewes into the Auckland province, but that would depend on finance, and farmers bad been hard hit by the outbreak.
It was true, he hiikl, that a number of infected animate w. re heiiirr killed for the small value of their carcase for boiling down; but that had no effect on the numbers available for human consumption.
