Mr. John Read said the committee had taken the trouble to ascertain the -\ iows of member* of the (Jovernmen*.. who were also members of the leyal profession. Their views wore that, as there was no pronounced public opinion on the sulijtvt. there should he n<. interfereiue. Mr. John Huberts {Chri-tclmrehl <~aid that in recent year* various cases which bad l>een decided against tho worker- by the New Zealand courts had been taken to the Privy Council and the decision* revers.e<J. He quote<i the Xapier earthquake case, the inji:-tice in \vhi<-h liad been rectified bv the Privv Council.
Mr. Dowd fTakapunai moved as an amendment that the remit he adopted. Ho stressed the fact that Xew Zealand was a Sovereign State under ihe Statute of Westminster.
Mr. James Roberts ««i<l that ihe watersiders had taken right to the Privy CVinnoil in recent year- and had not lost one. Xn courts wore more anxious to do justice to the workers than were the English courts.
