USE OF EXTINGUISHERS

An interesting digest of the duties of the inspecting officer who attends to private installations for fire-fighting in the Auckland Metropolitan Fire District, was submitted at the annual meeting of the board yesterday. The report stated that 266 business premises and other buildings, possessing their own extinguisher equipment, had been inspected. Business people had extinguished their own fires without summoning the brigade in 35 cases, and in five cases the brigade had to turn out. The insured value of the property threatened by fire was £1.622.302 and the actual loss was only £34 15/.

An additional seven premises were brought under the scheme; 32 more extinguishers had been added, with one more private hose line.
