MAXV BIRDS LOST IN SEASON. The Northern Racing Pigeon Club held its final race of the young bird season, the one-bird championship, during tho weekend. The birds were liberated at I.evin. and the winning bird covered the 2t>3 miles to its loft at Mount Eden in just over "1 hours. It had earlier proved its ability by winning a 2211-mile race, from Huntervillo. while the second and third birds had each been second ill race-: Irom Hunterville. and the fourth bird had won the Oliakune race. The four prize winners in Urn championship were: — Alexander and Watt's b c Ben Rraggie, 101 l yards per minute J S. Webb's b<• li I.ady Ben. ltMiflyds . . 2 .7. Shieis' b It Bluey. loOTyds 3 W. Donaldson's b c e I'aso Rohles. 1002 yards 4 The continual northerly winds rendered the past youtiK-bird season the most strenuous and severe for very many years and the losses were heavy by ail owners. In a number of races very few birds honied in raei. time, while in two races no birds arrived home on the day of liberation. S. Webb, of Mount Eden, wins by a comfortable margin the young bird average prize, awarded to the owner with the highest average position in the whole series of young bird races.
