WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES
IN WORK AGAIN. The, Riccarton trainer C. Emerson baa put Sir Hugh into regular work again. VV lieu raced previously this horse showed useful form iu high-weight events and should be capable of paying his way iu that class later on. HAD PLENTY OF RACING. When he won the Great Autumn Handicap at the recent Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting Arctic King was having his seventy-fourth start (says a southern writer). He has won seventeen times and been in the minor places fifteen times, and in stakes he has earned £3731. SUCCESS WAS DESERVED. Waitaka improved with each race at Riverton, and his success on the final day was well deserved (says a southern writer), though the horsemanship of J. W. Jennings played a big part in his win. In running the mile in 1.39 4-5 the Robespierre gelding equalled the track record established by Charuiaine when she won the event in 1932.
ENGAGED AT FRANKLIN. Although Gay Broney dropped out of his engagements at the Avondale meeting, there is nothing amiss with the brown gelding. He is in steady work at headquarters and is due to make his next appearance in the Papakura Hurdles at the Franklin meeting next month. IS NOT BEING OVERTAXED. Nothing in the way of strenuous work has been required of School Song of late, but no fault can be found with his condition. This gelding got on the winning list at tile Rotorua meeting in February, but has done little racing since. As School Song is not averse to soft going W., Kirk should be able to place the gelding to advantage during the next few months.
