OBITUARY.
MR. E. H. A. F. GERARD
The funeral of Mr. Ernest Henri Adolphe Francois Gerard, whose death occurred at his home at Bayswater. took place this morning. Mr. Gerard was 76 years of ape. and was well known in Masonic circles in Auckland. Tn hi- early life he was prominpnt in Auckland business lifp. His grandfather was a high official at thp court of Louis XVI. at the time of the Frpnch Revolution. The family had to flpe thp country soon after the execution of Marie Antoinette, and settled in Hamburg.
There Mr. Gerard's father was born, and lie later bpcamp a colonel in Napoleon's army which took part in the famous retreat from Moscow. The son was born in Hamburg in 1562. and married a daughter of an English army officer. The couple came out to Australia and then travelled to Wellington. Mr. Gerard was engajied in private business before being appointed official assignee at Auckland. He resigned that position to become first manager of the Guardian Trust and Executors Company of New Zealand, and was subsequently managin<r-director of Wilsons (X.Z.) Port la iid f'pincnt. Limited, from which he retired in 101.").
Later Mr. Gerard went to Europe and sottlerl in Guprnsey. Channel Inlands. H« then wont to livp in Snninr«o(. England nhi] returned to the Dominion in 19:?.1. Hp is survived by Mrs. Gprard and one daughter who are in France.
