DEEPLY DEPLORED.
PRESIDENT'S DEATH.
FEELINGS OF COUNCIL,
"Every memlicr of the council of the Auckland University College will deeply deplore the death of Mr. Mahon," said Mr. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., the' vicepresident. ''His association with the college commenced when he was a student there during the first decade of its existence, and his interest in its welfare appeared to increase as the years went on."
Mr. Mahon served as a member of the council for the long period of 28 years, Mr. Johnstone added, and as president since February, 1037. He # had an unequalled knowledge of its many affairs, and he spared neither time nor trouble to promote its advancement. During his recent holiday abroad lie visited many universities and university institutions for the express purpose of acquiring knowledge which he thought might lie of value to the college, and which he had since placed at its disposal. ".Since his return," Mr. Johnstone said, "he has devoted almost the whole of his time to the important duties as president. '"It will be 'very difficult to fill his place."
