PRESBYTERIAN CENTENNIAL
CELEBRATION IN 1940. I To consider the development of a scheme to raise £300,000 in connection with the celebration of the Presbyterian Church centennial in 1940, Mr. J. Henry Lang, president of a large American finance company, arrived from San Francisco by the Monterey this ny>rning. Mr. Lang is a New Zealander. born in Christchurcli, and has lived in San Francisco for the last lti years. He was in Auckland some time ago to conduct a similar campaign for the Y.M.C.A., and has returned at the invitation of the Presbyterian Church, whose executive committee is in Auckland, and is appointed by the Assembly, of which Mr. S. Harbutt is the chairman. '•'The Presbyterian Church has a statesmanlike plan to celebrate its centennial in 1940," said Mr. Lang, "and I am here to confer with the committee and develop a scheme to raise a million and a half dollars." Mr. Lang has also an offer from Australia to conduct a similar campaign for the Y.M.C'.A.
