TECHNICAL WORK.

AUCKLAND SCHOOLS. UNIFIED CONTROL NEEDED. HEADMASTER'S SUGGESTIONS The opinion that the Seddon Memorial r I echnical College should have some control over work in schools providing preparatory technical courses was expressed by the principal of the college, Mr. G. J. Park, in a report on technical education, which he presented to the board of managers at a meeting yesterday. Unified control was needed, he said. '"The college will always be a central school.'' said Mr. Park, "and as such it should have some voice ill the organisation of the general scheme for technical education in Auckland." Mr. Park recommended that he, or instructors acting under his direction, should have the right to inspect and report on technical work done in city or suburban schools. He gave his opinion that the large number of students attending the college at present had produced not the slightest sign of inefficiency. Mr. Park said that he did not think it would be unreasonable to suggest again to the Government that it should provide new specialist schools for those sections of the college's work which seemed suitable for transfer. A start could lie made with the domestic science classes. -All courses preparing girls for entry to women's industries, including nursing and domestic service, were in need of development, and could not be developed in the Seddon Memorial Technical College. Air. Park explained that he and his instructors would uet as inspectors, should his first suggestion be adopted. A member: How will the present inspectors like that? Mr. Park: I think they will welcome it. The report was deferred for consideration by the board.
