PLASTIC SURGEON. \ BOUND FOR AUSTRALIA. i TO ATTEND CONFERENCE. One of the passengers who arrived at Auckland to-day by the Monterey from Lo<> Angeles was Dr. H. L. Updegraff, one of the world's leading plastic surgeon*. He is consulting plastic surgeon to the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Hollywood, and commanding officer, with the rank of lieutenant-commander, of the Naval Plastic Surgery Reserve Unit at Los Anireles. He is a member of the Pan-Pacific Surgical Assoyation, which meet* at Honolulu, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Another position which he holds is chief of the plastic surgery 6taff at the Orthopaedic Hospital at Los Angeles.
Dr. L'pdegraff is on his way lo Australia to attend the Royal Australian College of Surgeons conference as representative of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery of the United States Navy, Washington. He will be a speaker at the conference, and will lecture on plastic surgery. Dr. I pdegraff said that the work of plastic surgery was largely in the direction of dealing with deformities and injuries. This morning he visited the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, where lie met members of the medical and surgical staff, and at mid-day attended a luncheon given by Auckland members of the profession. On his return to Auckland after the conference the visitor will give a lecture and demonstration.
