STAYED ON.

Camilla Horn takes HighWeight. Taumau wu the pacemaker in the Rimu Highweight, Southern Blood, Laggard and Charade following most of the ■way. Taumau was done with at the entrance to the straight, where Southern Blood took charge. Camilla Horn moved up to fifth half a mile from the post, and stayed on to beat Southern Blood decisively. Luetral made his appearance at the home turn, and outstayed the favourita Charade, who had every chance. Spe*H»r was close up, after tailing the field early. Jewish Lad and Girl Pat were thp leading pair 111 the early part of the Trial Plate, but Kindly, after being slow away, rushed to the front after two furlongß, leading the other two to the straight, with Inheritance and Settlement also handy. Jewish Lad then challenged, wearing the leader down, and winning by half a length. Twilight Song came from the rear to beat Settlement and Auto Sweep for third. Inheritance, a fancied candidate from Hawke'a Bay, collapsed in the straight. The winner is a six-year-old by Rabbi and looks a good sort. Kindly will not be long before she is a "winner. Only Two Start. Interest in the St. Leger was spoilt when a tendon injury caused Courtcraft to be scratched. There were only two

starters, but they provided a good contest. TTie Crooner opened out a gap of eix lengths early, "but this was reduced to three after a mile. There was no change to the. home turn, where Royal Chief moved up. The pair were together a furlong from the post, but Royal Chief stayed on well, winning by half a length, but very decisively. The result left no doubt as to his superiority, but many were disappointed at not seeing the Riccarton colt and Courtcraft measure strides again. Royal Chief will have his last race this season in tlio Awapuni Cup next week. Spendthrift and Rakahangn. were in front early in the Pacific Handicap, with Russian Ballet, Defaulter and Dissipation handy, while Dunstan and Sudan were also prominent coining to the course proper. Good Passage was at the tail of the field at this stage, but started to move up fast. In a good finish Defaulter came home strongly, winning by half a length, while Good Passage, finishing brilliantly, got up on the post to beat Sudan for second. She should win the tiivt. time •.lie begins well. Rnkahanga and Spendthrift were not far away, but wore stopping, while Dunmanwav, Drjkchma, Piastre and Prime Quality were next. Defaulter's performance was that of a good •staying colt. Led All the Way. Oratory, starting from the rails, led all the way and won the Thompson Handicap easily. It was an attractive performance by a mare with .some excellent form up to a mile. Francis Drake. Stretto, Smoke Screen. Paper Slipper and Suleiman followed Oratory from the barrier, but Suleiman, wide out. ran up fast to second place. Stretto ran into trouble after three furlongs, dropping a iong way back, but a furlong further on she started to move up again. Francis Drake, Suleiman, Whirling and Smoke Screen followed the leader to the straight, with a gap to the next bunch, including Stretto, who was coming on fast. Smoke Screen had second place n furlong from the post, while Stretto finished with a great run for -third. Suleiman stuck on fairly well in fourth place,

just in front of Francis Drake. Then came Catalogue. Dictate ami Arctic King, all finishing fast alongside Whirling, who I was stopping. Paper Slipper failed in | the run home after being well enough placed to the straight. Silver King. Davolo and Brazen King were three who began badly. Though Oratory won impressively she was fortunate that Stretto met suoh serious trouble. The Auckland mare came from so far back that it looked as if she was very unlucky. An inquiry into the' incident showed ■that Stretto tried to go through inside of Francis Drake where there was insufficient room and was forced to drop back. Valmarch set a strong pace in the Tinakori Handicap. Majority, Nightcalm and Lazybones following him along the back and round the turn, where Sigurd took fifth place, with Relative, Bluffer and Rockingham liandy. Valmarch was well clear at the entrance to the straight, but Sigurd put in a strong finishing run, beating the Otago gelding decisively in the last few.strides. Three lengths back Relative hung on to beat Bluffer, with Majority, Rockingham' and Nightcalm next. Lazybones was well placed to the straight, but failed badly in the run home. Never Headed. Laughing Lass, who races in the same colours as Oratory, was one of the smartest out in the Railway Handicap, and was never headed, winning decisively. She liaa some smart sprint form to her credit. Royal Bachelor, Lady Ina, Top Row and Brunhild followed for five furlongs, when Royal Bachelor and Top Row

retired, while Alunga, who was handy, with Grey Honour, moved up, after starting slowly. In a great finish for the places the judge wag. unable to separate Alunga and Grey Honour, both of whom ran on strongly. Brunhild and Lady Ina were heads away. Accomplice was the early leader in the Silverstream Handicap, but Sevfried and High Test soon ran past her, being joined in the lead after three furlongs by Copycat. at which stage Galteemore, Conveyor, Ruinette and Ned Cuttle were also well placed* Galteemore toek the lead "'lion the straight was reached, but Accomplice finished strongly, winning by half a length. Two lengths back Ruinette stayed on to beat Trebor, these two coming home well. Ilias and Son and Heir were next. High Test and Seyfried faded out in the straight.
